Insecticide – A couple of teaspoons of washing up liquid filled up in a spray bo le with water is a long-used aphid and other insect killer – it stifles the pests so they suffocate and starve, and is really rather effective.
Herbicide – Boiling water, or lightly diluted rock salt or vinegar, can work well in the war on weeds. Try a recipe of 2 cups of vinegar, a few squirts of washing up liquid and half a cup of ordinary salt.
