TRY A POTTED POND

-

Ponds in a pot need minimal maintenance, save a lot of space, freshen up your patio planting with unusual choices, and will attract frogs and insects as well as other animals – which all expanses of water do. Pop in a pump in larger potted ponds to add a nice water flow. You could even try sinking a pot in the ground to make the pond more natural looking.

Top tips

Use any large, watertight container, or transform an a ractive terraco a pot or wooden barrel with pond liner.

Always add rocks to the pot, some emerging out the water as wildlife perches. Add a means for frogs and other wildlife to get into the pond if they need to.

Leave room at the bo om of the container for oxygenators and water lilies to be planted, and use the stones as a shelf for marginal, below-surface plants to sit.

Only top up your container pond with rain water. If you need to use tap water, be wary that the high nutrients in the water will feed algae.
