What’s eating aruncus?

QWhat’s stripping the leaves of my aruncus? Norma Garrington, Leicester

AThis is yet another sawfly, active from May to September. The pale green, caterpilla­r-like larvae are about 2cm (¾in) long and voracious feeders. Hand picking can give good control. Heavy infestatio­ns can be controlled with a range of insecticid­es approved for caterpilla­rs.
