Four types of drought-tolerant plants
Small leaves
Plants with small leaves, such as thyme and hebes, lose less water through reducing evaporation.
Silver leaves
You’ll notice many Mediterranean plants have silver leaves, their light colour reflecting the sun.
Hairy leaves
The tiny hairs on plant leaves protect the surface of the leaves from sunshine and reduce evaporation.
Long thin leaves
Plants such as grasses have fewer stomata (leaf pores), so lose less water than those with larger leaves.
