Top tips for success!

Avoid buying bulbs that are soft, very dry, or have any traces of mould. Choose plump, firm and healthy bulbs. The largest or ‘top-sized’ bulbs will create the best flowering display. Don’t plant too closely; the bulbs shouldn’t touch each other or the sides of their container. After planting bulbs, apply a mulch of compost to help prevent weed growth. Plant bulbs in threes, fives or sevens as odd numbers achieve a more natural look. Plant two to three times deeper than the bulb’s height. Use chicken wire to protect bulbs from squirrels, who love crocus especially. Ensure containers have drainage holes. Bulbs can be irritating to the skin, so wear gloves.
