Lift and divide lily of the valley

-

If lily of the valley plants get too congested, they’ll produce fewer blooms, so it’s worth lifting and dividing crowded clumps every two or three years, once the flowers and leaves have faded. This will rejuvenate your plants and allows you to multiply your stocks. Dig around the plants with a fork or trowel and lift out the whole clump, ensuring the roots remain attached. Shake off excess soil and pull the rooted sections apart with your hands. Replant the sections, leaving 30-60cm (1-2ft) between plantings and water in well.
