Strawberries are settling in
Back in August I pegged down some healthy strawberry runners into cell trays. These all rooted well and have produced strong plants. To get established plants for planting into larger containers in spring, I’m going to pot the runners using multi-purpose compost into pots slightly larger than the cell trays. By keeping them moist in the polytunnel, where the temperatures are a few degrees warmer, they’ll continue to grow for the next few weeks and make some new roots. At this stage of the plant’s life, developing a good root system is the most important thing, as the bigger the roots in spring, the better the plants will grow, flower and fruit.
