Clear your sweetcorn

-

Sweetcorn cobs are ready to harvest once the tassels turn brown and the kernels emit a milky (rather than clear) liquid. Eat them quickly because the sugars start turning to starch straight after harvesting. If you’ve a glut of cobs, pick and freeze them rather than leaving them too long on the plants. Once the last cob is picked, you can dig up the old plants, break them into pieces and, provided the material is free from pests and diseases, add it to your compost heap.
