Q What do I do with my slug-ravaged, perennial lobelia? Carol Fern, Eastleigh, Hampshire

A If it’s not too much of an eyesore, I’d just leave the plant. However, if you do need to cut it back, it won’t make much difference at this end of the growing season. An application of organic slug pellets now may reduce the overwintering population.
