Plant small – trees establish be er this way. Consider the ultimate height and spread – do you have enough space? But, if the tree grows slowly its size may not be a problem for 20 years! Ideally, plant between October and April Pruning as appropriate creates a nicely-shaped young tree and stimulates growth and flowering

Don’ts

Never plant trees over drains! Don’t plant your tree too deep or it will struggle. Never use a strimmer round the base of trees. Don’t let grass or weeds grow at the base for a couple of years.
