TRICKS AND TIPS

-

Mulch your beds with stones or gravel to prevent water washing soil from the roots of plants – bark will soon wash away!

Avoid bedding plants and stick with herbaceous plants and shrubs that don’t need to be replanted every year.

Daffodils, bluebells and snowdrops will tolerate wet soils be er than tulips and crocus. Wild garlic ( Allium ursinum) and three-cornered leek ( Allium triquetrum) are the best alliums for wet soils, though both can be invasive!

Harness all that water by digging a hole and lining it with pond liner – or pop in a washing up bowl – to make a pond for frogs; they’ll help with pest control!
