Keep plants safe from wildlife!

-

If, like me, you’ve been harvesting brassicas for months, you’ve obviously done a great job of looking after your plants and making sure you’ve covered them with pest-proof ne ing. Unfortunately, at this time of year it’s not just us humans that want to munch on tasty kales and cabbages. Given half a chance, rabbits and pigeons will strip plants within a day; that’s why you should always check ne ing is secure when you leave your veg patch. I have to admit I haven’t always followed my own advice! I was in a rush and forgot to double check the ne ing on my sprouting broccoli. As a result it blew away and left the plants open to a ack from the air, with the pigeons happily obliging. The plants had leaves stripped bare within a day – luckily I’ve re-covered them and they should at least give me a crop, even if it’s not the biggest.
