Scarify lawns

-

Spring’s a good time to scarify a lawn to remove ‘thatch’, which is a build-up of dead plant material that accumulates in the base of the lawn, and dead moss that was treated with lawn sand a couple of weeks ago. For medium to large lawns an electric or petrol lawn rake can be used, which makes the job much easier, but on smaller lawns an old-fashioned wire rake is perfectly good. Removing the ‘thatch’ and dead moss will promote new grass shoots to develop from the base of the lawn and generally improve the quality of it.
