Get cold frames ready
Prepare cold frames for hardening off seedlings by insulating them with polystyrene sheeting, old polystyrene trays, shredded paper or similar. Clean the glass or plastic covering and have some thick sacking or old carpet ready to throw over the top on really cold nights. In days gone by, gardeners used to add wellrotted manure in the base of the frame and cover it with sacking. This would create heat to keep those frosts at bay.
