Terry Walton gets his early potatoes in the ground
After all this fresh air in my lungs, it’s time to pop back into the greenhouse for some light duties. My sweet peas are growing very well and are getting a single ‘leggy’ stem. It’s time to remedy by use of a pair of scissors. When at least four pairs of leaves are present, nip out the growing tip and this will allow side shoots to grow from the leaf axils and make strong, bushy plants.
At the rear of my greenhouse still stands a large drum of carrots, sown way back at the start of last August. These were the variety ‘Sugarsnax’ and it’s time for a pulling. These have turned out brilliantly and will keep my harvest of carrots going for a few more weeks yet.
