And I’ve got root veg to get going

-

To continue my sowing in the greenhouse I’ve filled 20 pots (4cm/1½in) with compost to get an early crop of beetroot underway. I’m still harvesting beetroot from the plot but spring’s supply needs to be started. There’s only one variety to grow early and that’s ‘Boltardy’. These are sown two to three seeds to a pot about 1cm (½in) deep and kept in a cool greenhouse. The other half of the tray holding the beetroot has 20 pots lined with fibre pots with their bo oms removed. These are filled with compost and into these I sow carrots of the variety ‘Maestro’, about four to five seeds per pot. They can later be planted out without disturbing the roots.
