New chrysanths to try in 2020

Get your orders off quickly if you want to try these beauties

When you consider that these days breeding new varietiess is almost solely in the hands of the enthusiast­ic grower and not the commercial nurseryman, you really have to take your hat off to these people. So why not try some of these beauties for yourself. Many of these are in short supply, so if you see something that catches your eye, get your orders in quickly!

Ivor Mace

Ivor has one medium exhibition to release. ‘Christine Arnull’ (2) is a pink medium exhibition. This Dave Arnull seedling won the seedling of the year class at the 2018 National Show. It’s a neat, classical, formed reflex that’s a sure winner.

Lauren Postins

‘Jeanette McCauley’ (23b) is a yellow medium incurve. This Sam Oldham seedling has good form and was chosen by Tony Walters and his granddaugh­ter Lauren to carry the name of Northern Ireland grower Herbie McCauley’s late wife, Jeanette. It’s sure to do well.

Halls of Heddon

There is one new spray from Halls this year. ‘Jan Jones’ (29d) is a white single spray bred by Rod Fox and with his track record it should be a winner. Stock available from Halls of Heddon, West Heddon Nursery Centre, Heddon on the Wall, Northumber­land NE15 0JS

Vin Aldred

Vin is releasing three new sprays. ‘Claire House’ (29d) is a beautiful candy-pink single named after the well-known children’s charity and a donation will go to them from every rooted cutting sold. ‘Dexter Chivers’ (29d) is a red single spray and winner of the seedling class at the 2018 National Show. ‘Bernard Aldred’ (29c) is a yellow double spray named after Vin’s father, it looks a sure winner with excellent form.

Ian Moss

Ian is releasing ‘Rudy’ (2) which is a white shade. Bred by John Nevill and looks a very big, full bloom reminiscen­t of a white gigantic.

John Peace and Chrysanthe­mums Direct

Both John Peace and Chrysanthe­mums Direct are releasing two seedlings from the late Gordon Dowson. ‘June Peace’ (25b) is a white medium intermedia­te. A pure white chosen by John Peace to carry his mother’s name. ‘Gordon Dowson’ (25b) is a white medium intermedia­te and a top-notch seedling chosen by John to carry Gordon’s name.

Mr B Ricketts

Has a mundial sport ‘Chesnut Mundial’ (6b), a bronze anemone sport from the popular mundial. It’s quality size and form to mundial and the other sports and a lovely clear colour.
