Q What are the tiny white worms in my compost?

Stew, by email

ABOB SAYS These are probably enchytraeids, which are usually found in manure and probably indicate that your compost has become rather wet and acidic. These conditions would discourage the dark red brandling worms that you need in compost. I suggest you add a dusting of lime or wood ash.
