Take softwood cuttings
Make the most of new shoots on bedding plants by taking cuttings. Place stocky shoots of plants like this verbena in a polythene bag and keep them moist while you work. Put prepared cuttings in a covered propagator or plastic bag and they will root in a few weeks.
1 Trim the base of each cutting just below a leaf, then remove the lower leaves. 2 Insert the cuttings into seed and cutting compost and firm in. 3 Soak the compost, using a fine rose on the watering can.
