Your autumn-winter greenhouse plan

-

Store harvested onions in racks or hanging from the roof.

Overwinter dahlia tubers in trays of barely damp compost or sand.

Sow lettuces in the soil border – be sure to choose a winter or all-seasons variety.

Overwinter pelargonium and fuchsia stock plants as well as cuttings, which can be taken as late as September and kept in trays or small pots until they are potted up into larger containers in spring.

Bring potted nerines that have spent the summer dormant, under cover to flower in autumn.

Force daffodils such as paperwhite and ‘Grand Soleil d’Or’ – they can be potted up and brought on for Christmas.

Don’t make the greenhouse a dumping ground. Store pots and other things in the shed – plants belong in a greenhouse.
