Under trees

-

Not all bulbs need full sun, and there are plenty that are happy in a woodland area. My favourites for shade are Eranthishyemalis (winter aconite) and Galanthus varieties (snowdrops) – they look fantastic in big drifts. I also grow Anemone blanda, which can create beautiful carpets over time. All I do with my woodland bulbs is add plenty of leaf mould each year. Many spring bulbs will flower under trees before the leaf canopy shades them, so you will find there are lots to choose from.
