In new borders

Make sure your border is weed-free and incorporate well-rotted compost or other organic matter to improve the soil before planting bulbs. This is your best opportunity to get the soil right. Remember that most bulbs, especially those that originate from the Mediterranean area, like good drainage and a warm site, so dig in a little horticultural grit into heavy soil.
