Sow seeds from fruits

-

1 Choose fat and healthy fruits with no scabs or signs of rot or disease. Seeds with ‘wings’ can have them snipped off, but take care not to damage the seed itself.

2 Remove the flesh from berries to help germination. To reveal the seeds of soft berries, clean the pulp off by pushing them around in a fine-mesh sieve.

3 Dry off seeds on kitchen roll and sow as soon as possible, or store in an airtight container in the fridge. Conkers and acorns should not be allowed to dry out.

4 Sow seeds with no fleshy pulp around them on the surface of seed compost and lightly cover. Label pots so you remember their contents.
