Remove lawn thatch

-

Now is the best time to attend to more intensive lawn treatments, like scarifying. In our cooler climate here, it is a task completed by the end of September, before the small window of favourable autumnal soil conditions closes. The grass needs to recover from the aggressive actions of our small, motorised scarifier. The rotating tines pull out the thatch of hidden moss and debris, which sits above the grass plants like an unwanted mulch. Young grass shoots closer to the soil benefit from the improved water penetration and air circulation that scarifying brings. Treat for moss and wait for the treatment to take effect before scarifying on a dry day.
