Supporting your pathway to Chartered Geographer

-

Geographers are found across a rich and diverse range of careers. A recent report from the British Academy showed that geographers are as employable as graduates of STEM subjects, and occupy key roles in financial services, education, government, and many other sectors.

As your career progresses, you may be thinking about how you can best showcase your unique geographical understanding of the world, and how to apply your skills to problemsolving and innovation. This is where Chartered Geographer comes in. Chartered Geographer is the Society’s internationally recognised professional accreditation for those with competence and experience in the use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills in the workplace. Achieving the accreditation signals to employers that you are committed to a career with geography, that your skills and knowledge are of a professional standard, and that you are dedicated to lifelong learning and professional development.

To gain Chartered Geographer status, you’ll need a geography (or related) degree and at least six years’ relevant professional experience (without a degree, you can apply with the equivalent length of time in work – around 10 years).

If you are an early-career professional with at least three years of professional experience, our new Geography Professional scheme supports your pathway to accreditation with expert advice, networking, mentoring, resources and professional development opportunities. For those who have made a firm commitment towards accreditation, we provide a mentor, annual personalised feedback on

CPD records, and bespoke advice and support on the application process.

Our LinkedIn group for those working towards Chartered Geographer lets you network and learn from other geography professionals along the way. Chartered Geographer is a fantastic way to provide continuity and structure to your career in geography. Why not get in touch with us to find out more?
