Tributes paid to ‘pillar of the family’ Terry

Devoted dad died after late-night collision

TRIBUTES have been paid to a dedicated Bridgend family man who died in a late-night car crash.

Terry Hill, 45, from Broadlands, Bridgend, died as a result of a collision on the A4233 in Wattstown, Porth, on Thursday night.

It happened when the car Mr Hill was driving was in collision with another.

In a statement released through South Wales Police, his family said: “Terry was a much loved and devoted husband, father, son and brother.

“He was a pillar not only to his family but the wider community, having been a member of his muchloved band Tylorstown Brass Band and a coach of the Bridgend Athletic under-15s rugby team.

“The family is devastated by this tragic event and Terry will never be replaced.

“Terry was dedicated to his family and friends in all aspects of his life and will be greatly missed by everyone he knew.”

Tylorstown Brass Band also paid tribute to Mr Hill, who played the cornet.

On their Facebook page, the club said Mr Hill had been an “integral part of the band’s success over the years” and that he would be “greatly missed”.

The tribute reads: “It is with great sadness that we have to inform our friends and supporters of the tragic passing of cornet player Terry Hill, who was involved in a car accident on Thursday, June 16.

“Terry has been an integral part of the band’s success over the years, assisting the band win its two national titles.

“His dedication and enthusiasm always evident and infectious, as flugel soloist or wherever needed on the cornet bench.

“He will be greatly missed not only for his great playing but also as a much loved friend to all. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

“Band will never be the same without you! Taken far too soon, Shine brightly Happy Chappy! Always in our thoughts x”

South Wales Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen both vehicles before the incident to contact the Roads Policing Unit.

A 40-year-old man from Ferndale was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed until September 14 pending further inquiries.
