Macmillan Cancer Support: Fundraiser: the Summer Lights Support initiative fundraiser is being held on Friday, June 24, Cefn Athletic club at 7pm. The entertainment includes live music by popular band The Decades plus a disco until midnight and a few other surprises to make your eyes light up! School Summer Fete Returns: The volunteers of Cefn School P.T.A are busy preparing for the return of the school summer fete on Saturday, July 2 at 10am.
School Sports Day: Will be on Wednesday, June 29 starting at 1.15pm. Fingers are crossed for the weather for both events!
Cefn’s BBQ @ the Box: Cefn Gwyrdd’s annual summer barbecue at Cefn Junction Signal Box will this year take place on Saturday, July 9 from 6.30pm. Don’t forget to check the signs on the village closer to the time just in case the weather forecast scuppers the original date. In the event that a downpour is predicted the BBQ will be postponed from Saturday, July 9 to July 16.
Cynffig’s National Finalists: Congratulations to Cynffig Comprehensive basketball team on reaching the national finals of the Welsh Schools Basketball competition at the Swansea University Sports Village. Taking on the top teams in Wales Oliver Roberts, Thomas Rees, Todd Murray, Kieran Thomas, Zac Sim and Ben Evans stormed through the quarter and semi-finals to win a place in the grand final against defending champions Cowbridge Comprehensive School. Cowbridge retained their title but Cynffig can be very proud of getting all the way to the national final and winning silver medals. Special mention in the tournament report was made of Cefn Rider Todd Murray (aka Superman!) who was praised for his outstanding defence.
Pamper Evening: Once again Mandy Baldwin is organising a pamper evening at the Community (Green Hall) on Friday, July 15. More details when they become available.
