Rebecca plans to teach after Welsh degree
A WELSH learner graduating with her BA Welsh degree has ambitions to keep the language alive in Wales.
Bridgend-born Rebecca Morgan, 22, followed an English medium education stream and studied Welsh as a second language.
She went to Swansea University four years ago to study a BA course in Welsh and as she was a second language student, Rebecca decided to follow a Proficiency Welsh Language course during the evenings as she wanted to improve her command of the language.
Rebecca saw her time at the university as a chance to gain as many extra skills and experiences as possible and made the most of every opportunity to be a part of a variety of activities and social clubs.
She was the president of the dance society for this academic year which led to her being awarded the prize for best individual contribution during the Student Union Awards for the show she organised and managed to raise £2,600 for the Velindre Cancer Centre.
Rebecca has also helped during summer schools, open days and visiting days, events that gave her the opportunity to develop the skills she desired to gain for her future.
Since the beginning of her course, she has been focused on gaining a degree in order to become a teacher.
She also set up a weekly placement for herself within one primary school. Rebecca was also elected as a student representative for her subject within the COAH board meetings and she made sure that her fellow students’ voices were heard.
Rebecca will be graduating next week with a first class honours degree and has gained a place on a PGCE secondary course at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
Speaking about her time at Swansea University, Rebecca said: “Coming to Swansea University has been the best decision of my life.
“I am leaving with so many unforgettable memories and experiences, as well as the confidence and ability to enter into my desired career as a teacher.
“I want to thank every single person that I have met over the last four years who have helped make my time at Swansea so special.”
