Evans and Amos team supreme

DAFYDD Evans and Steve Amos teamed up to win Members & Guests last Saturday at Pyle & Kenfig.

Their winning score was 44 points, and they finished a point in front of Chris Mayer and Darren Brown.

Two duos carded 42 points – Tony and Glen Webber together with Dan Huskings and Kris Harris.

Peter McCormick and Gareth Hewitt claimed fifth position on the strength of 41 points.

The nearest the pin prizes were claimed by Arwel Evans (4th), John Flint (6th), Anthony Jenkins (12th) and Bob Gibson (15th).

A Junior Stableford competitio­n last Sunday was won on countback by 36-point man Sam Peet.

Eight pars and nine bogeys set up the par round with Brodi Lewis (six pars) matching the score.

Third-placed Tom Peet went birdie on holes three and five in collecting 33 points with other fine scores coming from Elliot Watkins (32), Sean David (31), Kieran Tantum, Matthew Morgan (both 29) and Jacob Bailey (27).

Meanwhile, Brian Howells was a countback winner of the Old Pals Cup courtesy of a birdie on the third hole and eight pars to edge out Neil B Morgan in a photo-finish.

Though Morgan birdied the par-five ninth hole and matched par eight times, it wasn’t enough to pick up the silverware.

Two points back came Mark Furneaux who carded a Tutu (twos on the sixth and 15th greens) only to rue two costly blobs.

The 37-point mark was then a popular score through nine players – Neil Hampton, John David, David Campbell-Ace, Peter Richards, Phillip N Davies, Christophe­r Evans, Darren Grant, Michael Lethbridge and Carwyn Hammond.

The Ladies Section contested both the Jubilee Cup and Dennis Phillips Rose Bowl.

Claire Morris lifted the Jubilee Cup courtesy of a birdie on the home hole to give her a winning score of 85-10-75.

Her one-shot victory was over Cheryl Western, who carded a birdie on the ninth hole and eight pars in the tournament low gross score of 84-8-76.

Susanne Jones was third on the back of 95-18-77 while further down the scoreboard came Cath Parry (10121-80), Alison Evans (105-23-82) and Elizabeth Attwood (97-1384).

Fauve Birch mounted the victory rostrum at the end of the Dennis Phillips Rose Bowl courtesy of 38 Stableford points.

Her fine card contained a two on number six, and further birdies were recorded on the eighth, 13th and 16th holes.

Two points behind was Mary Ellis whose par 36 points contained a two on hole 12.

Lyn Lloyd took thirdplace honours with 35 points with Annette Rhys and Lynne Williams both registerin­g 34 points.

Birdies on holes two and 18 saw Susanne Jones onto 33 points, and Claire Morris birdied the 11th hole on the way to 32 points.

The Reg Doyle Cup was the high point last week for the Senior Section with Derek Bell ringing the right numbers in a winning score of 37 Stableford points.

The bell tolled for the remainder of the field once he went birdie on hole 11 while a magnificen­t seven pars completed the win.

However, the victory was on countback from Donald Lewis, who birdied the difficult 14th hole and shot four pars.

Ron Walters carded a two on the 15th green in shooting 33 points for third place with three competitor­s finishing with 32 points – Peter Williams, Paul Wilby and Graham Hugh Jenkins.
