THE July Medal at St Mary’s produced a hole in one with the drinks flowing from Steve Terrett, who went around in 78-969.

His ace and 15 minutes of fame was down to him breaking out of Alcatraz that is number 10 on the Pencoed golf course.

The wrecker of many a decent scorecard in its time, Terrett conquered the short monster protected by a nest of bunkers.

And in securing a one on his card, Terrett will soon receive a Rolex watch courtesy of “How Did I Do” website.

Though he also card- ed eight pars in wet conditions out on the golf course, it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

Seen mounting the victor’s rostrum afterwards was former Tondu cricket star Gary Donnachie who was bowled over in hitting 84-18-66.

During his heyday in whites, Donnachie loved to clear the ropes, but nowadays he trades in birdies.

On this occasion there was just one – he was one under par on the 15th hole – but six pars also helped him win the medal.

Lewis Jenkins got a two on hole 14 in 77-8-69 while there were nett 69’s from both Dave Scourfield (80-11-69) and Senior star Haydn Tallis (86-17-69), who carded a two on the second hole.

The low gross round came from Neil Channell (76-5-71) having entered birdies on his card at holes one, 16 and 17.

Four players got nett 72’s out of their rounds – John Rogers (86-14-72), Luke Foster (89-17-72), Paul Jerrett (98-26-72) and Howard Littlejohn (85-13-72).
