Photographic Exhibition: Congratulations to fellow columnist and President of Bridgend & District Local History Society Natalie Murphy on the presentation of a superb and interesting Photographic Exhibition of Old Bridgend Town which was held at Carnegie House (former Library) last week.

The event was opened by the new mayor of Bridgend Town Council, Councillor Robert Morgan.

Photographs were in abundance and included those of old Bridgend’s schools, chapels, churches, flooding, heavy snow falls, jazz bands, carnivals, great shops and so much more from the past.

Everyone is looking forward to Natalie’s next exhibition.

Donation To Y Bwthyn: After manning several stalls at various fetes this Summer and also the Bridgend Show, Bridgend Lions Club wish to thank everyone for their support.

In the Pirate Marquee there was free craft making and the children were able to make pirate hats, parrots, swords, etc, helped along by the Lions’ partners.

The games to play and teddy bear stalls were inexpensive and enjoyed by many as lots of prizes were won. A treasure chest completed the fun.

In September the Lions will attend Broadlands Fete which will be the last fete of 2016.

A One Day Book Sale will be held at Westward Community Centre, Cefn Glas in October and then preparations will be made for Christmas festivities.

The Club has had a busy year but very worthwhile as on Wednesday, July 13, the Lions donated £1,000 to Y Bwthyn at the Princess of Wales Hospital.

Car Parking: Residents are complaining that although there is so much congestion at the entrance to Heol y Bardd/Greenfields whilst the new gas pipes are being laid, inconsiderate residents from Broadlands Estate continue to park regularly in that area.

School News: At the beginning of July the pupils of Bryntirion Comprehensive School presented a brilliant production of We Will Rock You with permission of www. schoolswillrockyou.com.

Mrs Claire Hawkes, Head of Music & Performing Arts, was responsible for the production of this amazing show and she congratulated all the many pupils who had taken part not forgetting the expertise of the musicians, teachers and so many more personnel involved.

The main cast who were absolutely fantastic were as follows :

Scot Hawtin – Galileo; Lauren Coates – Scaramouche; Shauna Holmes – Meatloaf; Morgan Clemett – Britney; Phoebe Spence-Evans – Killer Queen; Matthew Daly – Khashoggi; Harriet Jones – Pop and understudy for everyone; Kirsty Richards/Sam Long – Teacher; Naomi Jenkins – Paul McCartney.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and as Nick Brain, Headteacher said “They were the Champions !”
