BRIDGEND County Borough Council tell us that they are working on yet another regeneration plan for Porthcawl and after so many false alarms one can but hope this time it comes to fruition.

It is no exaggeration to say that regeneration has been talked about in Porthcawl for around five decades and residents have become totally disillusioned and frustrated.

Even now although the council say they are working on a plan the public is being kept in the dark. The council should really give details of the proposed scheme which should then go out to consultation.

The electorate can decide on the merits or otherwise of the plans when they go to the polls next May.

It is vital that there is a thoughtful development in Porthcawl because little has progressed since the 1950s – the decline has to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

Services have decreased with the ending of a fully-manned police station, the closure of several sub post-offices and the imminent closure of a high street bank. An innovative development will help to move the town forward.

Having said all that there are some positive happenings in the resort thanks to the initiative of go-ahead individuals.

Plans have now been submitted for a £10m maritime centre by the Harbourside. Community Interest Company who must be congratulated.

Also a new health centre in the Newton area of Porthcawl has been given the go-ahead.

On a personal note as this is my first column as an AM I would like to thank everyone who voted Ukip on May 5 but I can assure all the people of South Wales that however you voted I will represent you to the best of my ability.

As an Assembly Member I will be working hard after the Brexit vote to ensure that Wales has its fair share of the money saved as a result of the decision.

We will fight for every penny.
