BRIDGEND mum Kate Perry, 36, has thanked Network Rail Wales after they invited her autistic son Morgan, eight, above, to be a VIP guest for the day.

A BRIDGEND mother has thanked Network Rail Wales after staff invited her autistic son to be a VIP guest for the day.

Kate Perry, 36, said eight-year-old Morgan, who loves to learn about railway crossings, had a wonderful time at the company’s St Fagans crossing when he watched the staff and machinery in action.

The Llangewydd Junior School pupil is a rail crossing enthusiast and went along to see level crossing manager Dave Jakeway and community safety manager Tracey Young going about their jobs.

Kate, a health visitor, said: “The staff there were absolutely great with Morgan, who loves trains and is a big level crossing enthusiast, in particular.

“Morgan is autistic and he sees the world differently and has many likes and interests that you wouldn’t call mainstream.

“I doubt they have many requests to visit the level crossings. But it was fantastic how they catered for him.

“He visited the level crossing manager and the safety manager, who gave loads of time to him even though they were working.

“They answered a lot of questions that Morgan had and showed him what happens in the signal box.”

The trip was arranged through Dave Lowes, who works for Network Rail.

Kate added: “We spent a good couple of hours there and they even gave Morgan a box of goodies and a T-shirt to remember his visit. “There are some amazing people out there and I would like to thank Dave and everyone we met for making Morgan’s dream come true.”
