Birthday girl Beryl turns 100 in style
CAKES, cards and congratulations from the Queen helped mark Beryl Harding’s 100th birthday.
The centenarian, who only moved into Pencoed’s Glanffrwd Care Home last year, was visited by family and friends and the deputy mayor of Bridgend, Councillor Cherie Jones.
Beryl, who served as a nurse during World War II, was presented with a cake decorated with pink roses – her favourite flowers – made by Glanffrwd’s chef.
Coun Jones joined the celebrations and presented Beryl with a bouquet of pink roses and her birthday card from the Queen.
Beryl’s son, Stan Harding, said his mum thor- oughly enjoyed the day.
He said: “It was superb. She had such a lovely time and was exhausted afterwards. Mum’s 96-year-old sister called to send her congratulations, too.”
Beryl was joined by her two sons, Ken, 76, and Stan, 74, her daughter-inlaw Gill, her four grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren, and other family members.
Beryl’s big day was shared with Glanffrwd’s annual summer fete.
Glanffrwd’s activities co-ordinator Victoria Carter said: “Beryl loves music and dancing so she especially enjoyed a wonderful performance from members of Sarah Burnell’s School of Dance. She’s so full of life and we all really enjoyed the day.”
Beryl lived in Port Talbot most of her life and was married to her late husband David for more than 50 years.
