Sad News: It is with regret I report the death of Joyce Statham, late of The Lodge, Southerndo­wn.

Joyce was a longtime member of Southerndo­wn WI and a regular at All Saints Church and had recently moved to live nearer to her family in Dorset. All Saints: The Eucharist on Sunday evening was taken by Moira Spence. Mothers’ Union: There will be a Strawberry Cream Tea at 2.30pm on Tuesday 9 August at All Saints, Southerndo­wn.

Library Service: This popular service will continue as normal throughout August. Opening hours Wednesdays 3.30pm to 6pm and Saturdays 10am to 12noon in the Church Hall, St Brides Major.

Run by volunteers more than willing to help you, there is a fine selection of books from Llantwit Major Library which are changed on a regular basis.

You can also obtain the Vale Council green garden bags (at the new price of £2) and blue recycling bags. Recycling: From this week our collection day will change from Thursday to Monday.

Black refuse bags will be collected on 8 August then fortnightl­y thereafter.

Green bag garden waste will be collected on 15 August then fortnightl­y on the alternatin­g weeks throughout the summer.

Kitchen waste and dry recycling items, ie cans, glass, paper and plastic, will continue to be collected weekly on these dates.
