Seasiders sweep to victory

-

PORT TALBOT & DISTRICT BOWLS LEAGUE

PORTHCAWL took possession of third position in Division One on the strength of a 66-49 win over Briton Ferry Steel at Griffin Park, writes Tony Poole.

Ken Marks made his mark on the outcome, handing in a 21-11 winning card as the Seasiders swept to victory on three rinks.

But the Seasiders were sunk at the Riverboat as bottom-placed Caerau Welfare carded a 76-35 win.

A buoyant Dylan Hookings was the star of the show for the Riverboaters following a 25-4 rink success.

In Division Two, Kenfig Hill took another step towards safety with a slender 63-62 win at Llansawel.

Not for a first time this summer, skip Graham Bluck received pats on the back, this time his winning card read 19-10.

And Maesteg Celtic took a vital derby clash with Maesteg at Garth Park via an 80-46 victory.

The Celtic bowlers took three rinks with skip Dave John top-of-the-pile on the back of a 24-6 success.

It left the Garth Park club eight points above the relegation zone that is currently occupied by Maesteg and Tata Steel.

There were mixed fortunes last week for Division Three promotion candidates Griffin Park who beat Bridgend, 65-54 at home only to lose 73-36 at rivals Mount Pleasant.

Skip Roger Williams set up the win over Bridgend with a 21-8 victory, but the defeat at Mount Pleasant might have cost Griffin Park promotion.

Prince of Wales Court Hawks continue to lead the way with 13 games yielding 137 points while Griffin Park have played two more games and have 129 points.

But third-placed Mount Pleasant have completed 14 games and have collected 126 points.

In Division Four, Bridgend Municipal picked up an important 70-54 whitewash win at thirdplaced Port Talbot Municipal.

Skip Dennis Adams led the victory bandwagon via a 19-13 win and after 13 games, the Newbridge Fields club has 125 points – eight more than Aberavon Liberal Club Do’s from identical games played.

But Port Talbot Munici- pal on 105 points have a game in hand over the top two.

Finally, Prince of Wales Court Eagles kept alive an outside hope of elevation with a 73-62 win over Briton Ferry Town at Penylan Avenue.

Skip Elwyn Williams carded a 23-10 victory to keep the Hawks hovering around top club Cwmavon and Brynhyfryd.
