PYLE & KENFIG

A GLAMORGAN League double is being celebrated at the Pyle & Kenfig club. A stable side was a key ingredient in the senior team success that triumphed in Division One just ahead of Pennard and Southerndown.

The Seconds, under captain Russell Adams, gave youth its head via Rhodri Booth and Tom Peet. They were backed all the way by Ioan Consitt, Thomas Flint, Ian Howells, Darryl James and Andy Williams.

MAESTEG

KAREN Jackson-John has done it again with regard to silverware at Maesteg. For a third consecutive week she won a tournament with the latest success coming via a win in the Carina Carey Cup.

Her countback victory on 31 Stableford points was at the expense over Pam Jones with Menna Lewis taking third spot on the back of 30 points.

Kerry Cadogan won the Senior competition with 35 points, finishing in front of Dennis Francis (33) and Terry Phillips (32). The Wayfarers 18-hole event proved a cagey affair with Nigel Jones pipping Stuart Hill on a 39-point countback

Secretary Brendan Kehoe took third-place honours on the back of a 38-point card.

COED-Y-MWSTWR

BRIAN Austin drove to victory in last week’s Senior Stableford event at Coed-y-Mwstwr. The 27-handicapper seldom applied the brakes in motoring on to 40 points and he had four pars.

Irish star Phil Harrington settled for runner-up spot with par 36 points and he matched par five times.

Par was also achieved by hole-in-one king David James and Carl Timbrell, a member of the Alan Phillips School of Golf.

Steady Eddie D Taylor; putting genius Michael Joyce and a sparkling John Dymond round led to them all log 35 points on the club computer.

And they finished two points in front of putting wizard Bryn Thomas.

Five twos were recorded on the day with George Davis and a Dymond sparkler lighting up the fourth green over the pond.

Gerald Bush and Taylor collected deuces on hole eight while Richard T Commander fired one in on the 17th.

The Ladies Section recently staged the Violet Bowl which perpetuates the memory of Denise James’s mother.

After two days of competition, honours finished even between Wales and the Rest of the World on 6-6.
