THOMAS, CARROLL SOUTH WALES ASSOCIATION DIVISION 5 PORTHCAWL 2NDS 149-2 LLANDARCY 2NDS 148-8

PORTHCAWL Seconds guaranteed Division 5 cricket in 2017 after an eight wicket win over Llandarcy in blustery conditions at Locks Lane and in one of the few games to beat the weather.

Skipper Paul Mason won the toss and invited Llandarcy to bat. Opener and skipper Chris Harland got off to a flyer, scoring 48 before being bowled by Josh Lyddon. There were contributions from Paul Skilton (22), Christopher Pickford (16no), Steven Moul (13), Ben Owen (11) and Jon Pryce (12) in reaching 148-8. The bowlers stuck to their task and it was Blair Driscoll the pick taking 4-22 from his eight overs. Nick Morgan, playing against his former club, took two wickets in two balls including that of danger man Skilton. Ma- son and Lyddon finished one apiece.

With the chance of rain at any time, Mason changed the batting order and this proved the game changer. Nick Morgan and Steve Jenkins got off to a good start putting on 23 before Morgan was caught for 12 off the bowling of Harland. Jenkins and Josh Lyddon put on 25 before Lyddon fell for 14. That brought David Lewis to the crease and he and Jenkins took Porthcawl to victory in 23 overs both finding the boundary with glorious shots to all parts of Locks Lane. Jenkins finished on 60 not out and Lewis 42 not out. The win for Porthcawl meant relegation for Landysul who finished bottom.
