Cornelly squander two-goal lead

ture with Tonyrefail Boys Club.

One point from three away matches doesn’t represent a great start, but ex-Penybont and Afan Lido star Joey Jones was set to return last night from suspension.

Cornelly brought Dean Barlow back in goal against the Buns while Lakeside golf star Sammy Jones played centre-half.

Recent signing Callum Jones also came into the side and early on, player-manager Dai Cane nearly connected with a header.

Dann Jones and Jake Roche also went close and at this point, Cornelly were the dominant force.

And after Chris Mitchell almost broke the ice, Cane did with a wellstuck 20-metre effort that beat goalkeeper Jason Pritchard.

His 40th-minute strike was soon followed by another goal, – this one com- ing from continual pressure with Roche netting.

But the Meadow Street boys promptly switched off, allowing Jamie Williams to pull a key goal back, and set up a Bun fight.

And during the early stages of the second half, it was all Ynyshir and it was almost inevitable that it became 2-2.

That moment arrived on the hour when Garin Hughes netted and Cornelly were left to cling on.

But they survived and, incredibly, they had three decent penalty shouts refused.

And close to time, substitute Jed Everton went one-on-one with goalkeeper Pritchard only to fire a shot wide off a post.

Cornelly, who were due to entertain Tonyrefail last night, host Porthcawl Town Athletic on Sunday, kicking off at 6pm as part of the latest Welsh Ground Hop.
