Caerau survive injury scare

CAERAU escaped a major injury scare during this cup exit against Taffs Well at Rhiw D’dar, writes Tony Poole.

Dylan Llewellyn had to leave the field with an injury to his right leg just above the ankle – and initial fears surrounded breakage.

But hospital scans later revealed it to be only heavy bruising and the former Llangynwyd Rang- ers star is only likely to be missing for a few weeks.

It was Llewellyn who almost gave the Riverboaters an early lead, but his effort clipped the cross bar. But the bell began to toll for Caerau in the 10th minute once former Merthyr Town man Cortez Belle headed home.

It led to the Riverboaters coming under fire, but they kept their heads above water. And after Tom Walters was brought down just outside the box, Rhys Dyke fired the free kick just over the top.

But towards the end of the half, Liam Davis failed to use his head and received a red card.

Though Caerau were only a goal to nil down at the break, the 10 men were again hit by Belle, who rang up a 2-0 scoreline. That cleared the stage for former Bridgend super club Penybont star Richard French to take centre stage away from Belle.

The wide operator made it 3-0 midway through the half and completed the scoring during final knockings.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s home Welsh Cup-tie with West End last Saturday was called off owing to the wet state of the Riverboat.

Another attempt will be made to settle the issue this Saturday.
