70th Birthday: Congratula­tions and best wishes from family and friends to Cilla Raz- Nick, of Cefn Glas, who became 70 years young on Monday, September 5 and regularly attends aerobic classes with much younger friends.

Cilla has enjoyed a host of celebratio­ns arranged by her sons, daughters- in- law and husband Jan. Get Well Soon: A speedy recovery is wished for two consistent line dancing members of Barbara Sherwood’s classes at the United Reform Church.

They are Maria Evans and Yvonne Hitchins.

Everyone looks forward to both these lovely ladies returning to classes fit and full of fun. Broadlands Litter

Pick: Frustrated by the prolonged inability of Persimmon to hand the central park area over to Bridgend County Borough Council for adoption, and removal of all the rubbish bins from the play park a few weeks ago, Broadlands Hub team of volunteers, in conjunctio­n with Keep Wales Tidy visited Broadlands unadopted areas to highlight their growing frustratio­n at the increasing litter problems in the area.

BRA intend continuing engagement with BCBC and Persimmon to try and reach a conclusion to this ongoing saga and will be attacking these areas again on Sunday, September 18 meeting at 10.30am outside the Loft. Laleston Community Council: The meeting of Laleston Community Council was held at the Blandy Hall on Thursday, July 21 with Councillor Tony Berrow in the chair.

Please contact me for full details of the minustes of items discussed. Laleston Gardening Club: The 46th Annual Horticultu­ral Show and BBQ took place on September 3 and it proved to be one of the wettest Saturdays of the summer.

The club is grateful to the six lady members who between them staged a total of 202 exhibits with Sian James alone contributi­ng an amazing 70 entries.

President Margaret Worgan presented the following trophies to the winners:

Margaret Ceredig – Winner of Laleston Garden Club Cup in Novice Section.

Annette Humphries – Winner of Trotman Rose Bowl (cut flowers section).

Catherine Bradford – Cup in Preserves Section and Ethel Hayball – Cup in Arts and Crafts.

Margaret Worgan – Winner of Ladies Section Shield ( flower arrangemen­ts).

Gwen Bradford – Winner of Speedy Vac Cup in baking section.

Val Lincey – Winner of Laleston Photograph­y Section Cup ( to keep).

Marion John – Winner of Top Vase 1.

Barbara Thomas – Winner of Top Vase 2 & 3.

Dennis Walters – Winner of Mike Thomas Cup for Best Bloom.

Sian James – Winner of Dennis Walters Cup (a new award for Best Veg).

President’s Cup for most points in show; Top Tray 1; Ken Freeland Trophy – Veg ( root and bulb section).

Ken Robbins Shield – ( fruit and veg Section); Barclays Bank Trophy/ Bethel for Biggest and Best.

Bethel Chapel Cup - Pot Plants Section; Cath Ayres Memorial Bowl – Needle crafts Section.

The winner of the star prize in the raffle was a delighted Marion Dalrymple who won a fabulous hamper of food and drink.

The show secretary Pauline Sloan sends special thanks to each and everyone concerned with the show not forgetting the Bridgend District Scouts Explorer Unit under the leadership of Jeremy Howells who returned the following afternoon when the weather was calmer to dismantle the marquee and pack it in storage.

Glan Hathaway, the Chairman had not been well enough to attend on the day but he was pleased that the show had passed off successful­ly, despite the atrocious weather, and it is hoped he will soon be enjoying better health.
