Ty Hafan’s superheroes get starring role of their own thanks to Geraint

- MARK SMITH

CHILDREN and young people supported by Ty Hafan are often described as superheroes.

Despite having conditions which mean they are unlikely to reach adulthood, they often possess strength and courage akin to Superman or Spiderman.

To celebrate their unwavering determination, Porthcawl photographer Geraint Williams used his artistic skills to transport youngsters from the hospice in Sully into their very own superhero film scenes.

One of the young people involved with the photoshoot was sevenyear-old Aaron Dutson, from Chepstow.

Aptly nicknamed “the Hulk”, his superhero photo does a great job of capturing his outgoing and cheeky personality.

Aaron has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) – a severe musclewasting condition affecting around 100 boys in the UK each year.

Life expectancy can vary but many boys do not live beyond their teens.

His mum, Cat Morris, said: “Aaron is our own little superhero and we’re incredibly proud of him. He takes steroids for his condition which is why we’ve nicknamed him the Hulk.

“Aaron faces his condition with incredible bravery and continues to achieve much more than expected.

“He is such an outgoing and confident boy. He loved the photos and so did his little brother, Jacob.

“The pictures are really different and it’s another lovely memory we can at the hospice. We always attend as many Ty Hafan events as we can – it’s always lovely to catch up with the staff and friends we have made over the years.

“As a family, we love superhero films like Batman, Superman and Captain America. Tom thinks his photo is really cool and it’s his screensaver on his phone.”

Tom said: “I really liked getting myself superimposed as a superhero. I thought it was really cool and awesome and I would definitely recommend it.

“Being a football fan with Euro 2016 being on at the time, and having the superpower of fire in my photo, it made me think I was the Welsh Will Grigg!”

Ty Hafan helps lifelimited children, young people and their families make the most of the time they have together.

It takes its support into the heart of the family home and is there to help families through every step of their journey.
