BRYNAMMAN ............. 18 PENCOED .................... 30

THINGS started badly for Pencoed with the loss of prop James Tredray in the second minute with both shoulder and ankle injuries.

Soon after, Adam Williams opened Pencoed’s account with a penalty and within minutes, home full back Chris Moore levelled matters.

Despite the early loss of Tredray, Pencoed were dominant in the scrums.

Brynamman took the lead, turning defence into attack with a 70 metre counter through the pace of Moore and lock Faniel Page scored. Pencoed soon hit back, initially at a scrum which destroyed the home eight and good hands saw centre Rhys Thomas race in from 35 metres and Williams added the extras. Moore and Williams then swapped penalties and Pencoed led 13-11 at the interval.

Pencoed dominated the opening 15 minutes of the second half but were unable to turn their pressure into points. Then, No 8 Gereth Prentice and scrum half Kyle Barrett combined from a scrum for supporting full back Tom Cross to release Ryan Russell with a well timed pass and the young winger took his chance to deive over at the corner, Williams adding a fine conversion.

Williams then kicked a further penalty.

Brynamman kept themselves in contention with a contentious penalty try and Moore converted.

Brynamman continued on the attack and Pencoed picked up a yellow card in desperate defence.

Prentice then broke from his own line to make ground to the 22 and Pencoed swept play the length of the field and forceful driving play in the home 22 saw young prop Brandon Nelson crash over to seal the match, Williams added the conversion.

In a superb Pencoed effort, their Man-of-theMatch accolade went to Dano Howells.

On Saturdaym Pencoed travel to Morriston for a 2.30pm kick off.
