PONTARDAWE ............ 43 CEFN CRIBWR ............ 24

THIS was another disjointed Cefn display against a dynamic Pontardawe team that sought to run the ball at every opportunity.

Both sides started well enough, with Cefn’s forwards just getting the edge but Pontardawe’s backs were having none of it, living off scraps of ball and running in four first half tries, three from well inside their own half and another from a midfield interception.

Cefn were already 2910 down but galvanised themselves following some stern words at half time. The Cefn forwards worked hard to get their side back in the game with some hard driving that allowed No 8 Simon Tame to power over for his second try of the match and electric flanker Kieron Hooper threaded his way over to bring Cefn back to 29-24 playing with the slope and a light breeze. Outside half Gareth Lewis put over three excellent conversions and a penalty.

Cefn looked every inch a winning team with several powerful driving scrums punishing Pontardawe. With Cefn preferring to move the ball from a scrum right under Pontardawe’s posts, instead of keeping it in the scrum. The resulting midfield mix up saw the Pontardawe outside half Jac Jarred hack the loose ball up field for their flying wingers to pounce for another length of the field score. Pontardawe eventually ran out comfortable winners.
