KENFIG HILL ............... 36 MAESTEG .................... 15

MAESTEG had one of those days when very little went right and Lady Luck favoured Kenfig Hill.

Maesteg made far too many mistakes and lost far too many lineouts on their own throw.

An early Maesteg counter attack was halted by a high tackle and outside half Kieron Harris kicked the penalty.

Maesteg lost a lineout on their own 22 and the gave away a penalty. It was taken quickly and No 8 Evan Williams powered over for a try.

Another lost lineout saw the Mules put in a high kick which bounced kindly straight into the arms of winger Kristian Stenner who made it 10-3.

When a Maesteg attack broke down, the ball was hacked through and the race was won by Evan Williams for a third unconverted try.

After two missed penalties, Maesteg chipped over the home defence who tried to run it but instead, gifted a try for centre Sam Griffiths which made it 15-8 at the interval.

A good break by Tom Briggs was held up but Stenner was on hand to get Kenfig Hill’s bonus point try and Tom Davies converted.

Maesteg mounted a strong lineout drive and then moved the ball but a long pass intended for Jon Phillips was held up in the wind and Briggs intercepted and raced away to score a try converted by Davies.

A powerful Maesteg scrum led to a penalty which was taken quickly and Liam Healey crossed for a try converted by replacement Laurance Howley.

Things continued to go wrong for Maesteg and a pass hit their prop Lyndon Davies and went forward and Josh Tame snapped it up to score and substitute Connor Tantum converted.

On Saturday, Maesteg are away at Ystalyfera.

Winning number in the Llynfi Valley Lottery was 398.
