Carriage-driver Emily impressing

A BRIDGEND girl is making waves in the tough sport of carriage driving.

Emily Curnock from Bryncethin is 16-yearsold and is a pupil at Archbishop McGrath Comprehens­ive where she has just started the sixth form.

She started driving three years ago with her little pony called Top Dollar who she has now ourgrown.

She is a member of Powys Driving Club, the Forest of Dean Driving Club and the British Driving Club as well as a member of Bridgend Young Farmers.

Between 2014 and 2016, Emily has become the current Junior Silver Medalist Champion at the World Scurry and Driving Trials at Sandringha­m,

She has won the European junior Champion at Scurry and Driving tri- als at BBC Country File Blenheim Palace 2016; the Novice Pony Champion and Senior Junior Champion at Powys Driving Club 2016; Winner of The British Driving Club Junior Scholarshi­p 2015; Fourth place at the recent National Championsh­ip for Novice Evolution Pony at Cirenceste­r Polo Ground where she competed with the best in the world where horses can cost £40,000-£50,000.

She was nominated for Junior Sports Personalit­y of the year at Llandrindo­d Wells in 2015 and the Duke of Edinburgh Award 2016.

Emily’s goals in the future are to study engineerin­g at a top university and to be selected for the British Young Driving Team who represent Great Britain at carriage driving all over the world.
