SWALEC BOWL FIRST ROUND

-

BRITON FERRY ........... 21 CEFN CRIBWR ............ 24

CEFN came out surprise winners in this entertaining encounter away to a side that is two divisions above them.

Ferry struck early with two tries from impressive centre Karl Lewis. Cefn applied themselves particularly in the scrum against a much bigger pack, for livewire flanker Kieron Hooper to scythe through a gap in the Ferry defence for Cefn’s first score.

Cefn centre Mark Astley was then sent in by some quick hands from scrum half Kyle O’Reilly and outside half and skipper Owen Davies scored an excellent try. Davies also converted.

This kept Cefn in touch at half time, but also spurred Cefn on to make a real game of it with strong centre Kristian Herbert going in following a neat chip and chase to make it 17-14 to Cefn at half time.

Ferry turned the screw again for their third converted try to move ahead 21-17.

It was Ian Williams again in support of another excellent Owen Davies break, to burst for the corner. Williams cleverly saw the cover tackler coming, and sensibly off loaded to the supporting Lee Rogers to go over.

Lively full back Adam Lloyd put over an excellent conversion to seal a terrific win for Cefn. In a good all round Cefn display, it was his lock John Brace that stole the show with a tremendous all action performance.
