Council has let down Maesteg

-

I WOULD just like to comment regarding Bridgend County Borough Council’s (BCBC) proposal of shutting down Maesteg indoor market in the coming weeks.

This is a truly tyrannical state of affairs, instigated by short-sighted policy which is formulated by tired local politicians.

This proposal has a direct effect of the livelihoods of many small business owners who operate out of Maesteg indoor market. My Aunty Maggy had a stall in Maesteg market for many years, selling candles, cards, torches and anything that would turn a small profit.

As a valley community Maesteg is now truly thriving. It is a shame that others from outside Maesteg have an agenda for wanting to spoil things.

BCBC has a consistent and unfair approach to investment of the outlying Llynfi, Garw and Ogmore Valleys and also Porthcawl.

Meanwhile, millions of pounds have been poured into Bridgend town, but to no avail. One rain melancholy Saturday afternoon I walked around Bridgend town and my immediate thinking was where has all the money gone? Oh yes, that’s it, right down the drain.

Even though the South Wales valleys have been deprived, the people still knuckle down, work hard and prosper. It is a shame that our elected officials don’t show the same work ethic. Debbie Williams Maesteg
