Police river search for missing dad
A CAR believed to belong to a missing father has been found by police.
Russell Sherwood, 69, went missing on Sunday and officers searching the River Ogmore looking for the missing Neath man have found a car believed to belong to him.
According to South Wales Police, due to the location of the vehicle, the treacherous conditions and the fading light, the search was stood down on Tuesday evening.
Earlier in the day, a car’s bumper believed to belong to Mr Sherwood was also found.
South Wales Police said they were focusing their attentions on the area near the dipping bridge.
A South Wales Police spokeswoman said on Tuesday afternoon: “A police presence will remain at the scene throughout the night. A recovery operation will begin at first light on Wednesday.
“Mr Sherwood’s family have been kept fully informed of the developments and are being supported by specially trained officers.”
Mr Sherwood, 69, has been missing since Sunday after he set off from Neath to pick up his wife from Bridgend .
Mr Sherwood was driving his silver Ford Focus, registration beginning CP66, but he failed to arrive at an address in Ewenny.
In a Facebook post, his son wrote he was due to pick up his mother at 7am on Sunday, but after leaving his home had not been seen.
Superintendent Simon Davies said: “This remains a difficult search in very testing conditions.
“The river is very swollen and fast flowing, and as such specialist officers with specialist equipment are conducting the search.”
