Lucky Escape: My constituents in South Cornelly had a lucky escape when the Wood Chip Plant had the land withdrawn.

The land owner, who I went to see to voice my concerns about the plant, did not know what was being applied for.

I even took part in a BBC news item about the proposal. The recent fine of £20,000 seemed too little for the several fires around Bridgend, and fumes, day and night.

Oddly enough, the site applicants were constituents of mine too.

Coffee Morning: The Methodist Church on Heol Fach holds a Christmas Coffee Morning, on Saturday, November 26, from 10am-1pm.

Christmas Fayre: A Christmas Fayre with a Victorian theme, will be held on Gibbons Way, Marlas on Saturday, December 3 for most of the day.

Organised by the Cornnelly And District Development Trust - CADDT.

Cornelly Community Council: The Christmas trees are in place, one on Hall Drive one close to the Angell Inn, Mawdlam.

These lights will be switched on Friday, November 25.

The Christmas lights in the ward, South Cornelly, North Cornelly, Mawdlam will be switched on Friday evening.

Christmas lights will also be switched on at Kenfig Nature Reserve.

In addition to that, Solar lights will also be lit across Cornelly too, they will be placed on each lamp post.

W Roddy Evans: Welsh rugby legend Roddy Evans was a good friend of mine over many years, his funeral is Thursday (tomorrow).

Having played for Wales, gaining 12 caps, and several times for The Lions in the late 1940s & 1950s, he was very good rugby player.

Roddy I knew from church, most people would not know that. I once took a telephone call from his brother, Rev Peter Evans.

Peter wanted him and wife Sue, to come to my then church, New Life, Cefn Cribwr.

I invited them and they came, staying for many years. On one occasion, I was expecting a guest to Cornelly, that was an American astronaught - Charles Duke!

Charles Duke, was in the Guiness Book of Records – at that time – reaching the highest point on the moon, staying longest on the moon.

Charles Duke with his wife Dot, were to speak at an event that I organised, in Bridgend Leisure Centre.

Sunday morning, he came to preach in the Community Centre, Cornelly. I suggested to Roddy Evans and wife Sue, that they could be overnight guests at their home overlooking Rest Bay – they agreed.

Roddy and Sue, gave a lovely party for Charles and Betty Duke on the Saturday night.

So they had a lovely time with the Evans, so did I. My heartfelt sypathies, go to Roddy’s wife Sue, Nigel and Baz and their families.
